Adam Hansel is Chief Operating Officer at Digital Technology Laboratory (DTL). Adam received his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of California, Davis in 2000 and returned in 2010 to pursue his Ph.D. The areas of concentration include mechanical design, mechatronics, manufacturing, and finite element modeling. In 2000, he joined DTL and assumed the position of Chief Operating Officer in 2006. Initially only a small exploratory analysis and software subsidiary of the Mori Seiki group, Hansel concentrated on expanding DTL’s engineering contribution to Mori Seiki and tripled the DTL’s workforce. DTL is now a world leader in progressive manufacturing technologies such as nano scale machining, virtual prototype testing, automation solutions, shop floor connectivity, and machine simulation. To continue to provide the best possible service to Mori Seiki and manufacturing, Hansel recently relocated DTL to a new state-of-the art facility in Davis, California. The building is a statement of the company’s vision for the future, promoting modern manufacturing as a high-tech industry and also receiving top honors for environmental design with the Gold LEED certification from the US Green Building Council, the first in Yolo county. Most recently, Hansel has played an integral role in bringing Mori Seiki’s first North American manufacturing facility to Davis. Scheduled to open in the summer of 2012, this enterprise is an important part of the solution to keeping America’s manufacturing robust.
